On June 30th, various organisations in the United States decided to go forward in the creation of a United States Solidarity Economy Network (provisionnal name). During the following months, the Solidarity Economy Work Group will be tackling all neccessary steps such as building a mission statement, membership, funding and governance.
This decision was made at the United States Social Forum held in Atlanta from June 27 to 30.
The workgroup organised workshops which raised much interest in the solidarity economy and other economic alternatives. Most participants in the workshops confirmed a willingness to build a solidarity economy movement in the United States. And, it is clear for all that the networking has to be done on national (US), continental (NANSE) and intercontinental (RIPESS) levels. They have also manifested much interest in participating in the 2009 4th International Meeting on the Globalisation of Solidarity, to be held in Luxemburg.
A delegation from GESQ and CCEDNET, comprised of Ethel Côté, Nancy Neamtam, Michael Lewis and Yvon Poirier were very glad to attend this historic moment which promises much for the future. The delegation was also involved in workshops presenting the Canadian and Québec solidarity economy experiences.
Nedda Angulo Villareal from GRESP in Peru (and member of the RIPESS Board) was invited. She made a presentation about the solidarity economy in Peru.
The Altanta meetings were a very inspiring moment.

Le 30 juin dernier, différentes organisations des États-Unies décidèrent d'aller de l'avant dans la création d'un United States Solidarity Economy Network (nom provisoire). Pendant les prochains mois, le Groupe de travail de l'Économie Solidaire va s'atteler à la réalistion des différentes étapes tels que la mission, l'adhésion, le financement et la gouvernance.
Cette décision à été prise à l'occasion du Forum Social des États-Unies tenu à Atlanta du 27 au 30 juin dernier.
Le groupe de travail avait organisé plusieurs ateliers qui ont suscité un intérêt considérable dans l'économie solidaire et des alternatives économiques. La plupart des participants dans les ateliers ont manifestés une volonté de bâtir un mouvement de l'économie solidaire aux États-Unies. Et il va de soi pour tous que le réseautage doit se faire au niveau national (US), continental (NANSE) et intercontinental (RIPESS). Ils ont également signifier un intéret manifeste de participer à la 4e Rencontre Internationale de Globalisation de la Solidarité en 2009 au Luxembourg.
Une délégation de GESQ et du RCDÉC composée d'Ethel Côté, de Nancy Neamtan, de Michael Lewis et d'Yvon Poirier était très contents d'avoir été présent à ce moment historique très prometteur pour l'avenir. La délégation à également présentée dans des ateliers l'expérience canadienne et québécoise en économie solidaire.
